The largest of the Orkney Islands is Mainland, home to the two largest towns, Stromness and the capital, Kirkwall. First thing to notice is the huge amount of cattle! The island is very well farmed. The Ring of Brodgar is fairly central and is on most visitors bucket list - nearby are the Standing Stones of Stenness. There is lots more too but I always head for the coast - its incredible.
